Terps Set For EAGLs

The Maryland gymnastics team heads to the EAGL Championships on Saturday, March 22. New Hampshire will host the meet, which is set to begin at 2 p.m.

Maryland (11-7, 6-6 EAGL) is entering the meet coming off a victory over West Virginia last weekend, which clinched an undefeated record at home for the Terps. Maryland tallied 195.525, the highest score they have posted this season.

Maryland has gone 6-6 in EAGL competition this season. Maryland defeated North Carolina twice and fell to the Tar Heels once. The Terps also faced Pittsburgh three times and tallied two victories. Maryland lost both of its meets against New Hampshire and split its series with George Washington, each team winning once. Maryland has only faced NC State once this season and fell to the Wolfpack, but in Maryland’s lone meeting with Towson, the Terps came out victorious. Maryland did not face EAGL competitor Rutgers in the regular season and Saturday’s competition will be their first meeting in 2014.

In EAGL rankings announced March 18, New Hampshire is on top with an RQS of 195.720. NC State is the No. 2 team with a 195.615 RQS and Rutgers is third with 195.200. Maryland is in the middle of the pack at fourth with an RQS of 195.010. Pittsburgh, George Washington, North Carolina and Towson rank fifth through eighth, respectively.

NC State’s Brittni Watkins claims the top spot on vault, floor and in the all-around. New Hampshire’s Kayla Gray sits atop the beam rankings, narrowly edging out Maryland’s Stephanie Giameo. Rutgers gymnast Alexis Gunzelman holds the top spot on bars.

The Terps hold top-three spots on bars, beam, floor and all-around. Giameo’s 9.855 RQS on beam earns her the No. 2 spot in the event. She also ranks third all-around with an RQS of 39.150. Karen Tang is second on both bars and floor with RQS marks of 9.830 and 9.870, respectively.
