COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland junior defender Megan Douty has been added to the Tewaaraton Watch List, announced Thursday.
Douty is one of Maryland’s top defensive players, helping the Terps hold opponents to a mere 6.4 goals per game. The Terps have limited five squads to five or fewer goals, including No. 6 Penn their last time out. Currently, Douty boasts 12 ground balls and eight caused turnovers as Maryland remains unbeaten in 2014.
A second round of additions will be announced on April 10. On April 24, the field will be narrowed to 25 men’s and 25 women’s nominees. Nominees can be players on the watch lists or players not on the watch lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions for players who earn a spot. Five men’s and five women’s finalists will be announced on May 8 and will be invited to the May 29 ceremony in Washington.
First presented in 2001, the Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the preeminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States.
Maryland standout midfielder Katie Schwarzmann won the last two Tewaaraton Awards.
