Each week during the 2013-14 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week. This week's Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week is junior Thea LaFond of the Maryland women's track & field team.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Two-time ACC individual champion Thea LaFond has been honored as the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week after her performances at the league’s indoor track and field championships.
LaFond, a junior from Silver Spring, won the pentathlon and the triple jump at the ACC Indoor hosted by Clemson. She also finished fourth in the women’s high jump and posted career-bests in the pentathlon, triple jump and high jump during the weekend.
LaFond was the only student-athlete on either the women’s or men’s side to win two individual titles at the ACC Indoor and her 25 individual points were the most scored by any competitor.
Last week, she was voted the Mid-Atlantic Region Indoor Women’s Field Performer of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. She earned the same honor from the ACC after her performance.
