COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland wrestling program’s five NCAA qualifiers found out their first round matchups as the NCAA released the brackets for the 2014 NCAA Wrestling Championships on Wednesday.

“It’s exciting,” head coach Kerry McCoy said. “We now know who we’ve got and it means we’re one day closer to our goal. This is what we train for all year.”

The Terps qualified five competitors total to the tournament. Jimmy Sheptock, Christian Boley, Spencer Myers and Tyler Goodwin qualified based on their performances in the ACC Championships while Shyheim Brown received an at-large bid.

Sheptock becomes the Terrapins’ first-ever No. 1 seed as the top seed at 184 pounds. The senior from Northhampton, Pa., is looking to become Maryland’s first NCAA champion since 1969 when Gobel Kline won the title at 152 pounds as a No. 2 seed. Sheptock, who is a perfect 28-0 this season, takes to the mat vs. Wyoming’s Benjamin Stroh (27-6) in the first round.

Sheptock earned an automatic berth into the NCAA championships after winning his third ACC title at the ACC championships last weekend in Blacksburg, Va.

Boley is seeded ninth at 197 pounds and will face Binghamton’s Cody Reed (27-10) in the first round. The senior from Brockport, N.Y., brings a 22-4 mark into the championships.

Myers enters the NCAA championships as the No. 12 seed at 285 pounds with a record of 23-4. The senior from Selinsgrove, Pa., will take on Chattanooga’s Dawson Peck (20-5), who earned an at-large berth out of the Southern Conference, in the first round.

Goodwin is unseeded at 133 pounds with a 15-8 mark, but earned his NCAA tournament spot with a second-place finish at the ACC championships. The freshman from Gambrills, Md., will face No. 9 seed Johnni DiJulius (26-7) from Ohio State in the opening round.

Brown is also unseeded at 141 pounds with a 19-8 record this season. The sophomore from Harrisburg, Pa., will square off with No. 12 seed Richard Durso (34-3) from Franklin & Marshall.
