Gina Suarez-Malaguti is in her first season as the Assistant Women’s Tennis Coach at the University of Maryland.
Suarez-Malaguti joins the Terps after a decorated playing career and perennial power North Carolina. The Florida native put together one of the best individual season in Carolina history in 2013, going 29-9 before falling NCAA quarterfinals. She earned ITA All-American honors and become the first UNC player since 1993 to win ACC Player of the Year. Her individual accomplishments translated into team success as the Tar Heels won the ACC regular season title and the ITA National Indoor Championship with Suarez-Malaguti helming the No. 1 slot. She defeated 17 ranked opponents over the course of her senior campaign.
Prior to her senior season, Suarez-Malaguti was a valuable contributor throughout the lineup for a consistently talented Tar Heel squad. She rebounded from a fall season shoulder injury to record an 18-11 record in her junior year., Suarez-Malaguti also notched 26 singles victories as a sophomore and 23 as a freshman.
Suarez-Malaguti was also a high school All-American and reached the top 100 of the ITF junior world rankings in February of 2009. She was born in Caracas, Venezuela.
