Terps in 12th After First Day of Hurricane Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Maryland women's golf team will head into day two of the Hurricane Invitational in 12th place after opening action on Monday at the Biltmore Golf Course.

The Terps played one round Monday finishing with a total score of 303. Maryland was led by Juliet Vongphoumy with a score of 71. She is currently tied for eighth. Emily Gimpel is tied for 32nd place after shooting a 74 in the first round.

Alexandria Papell scored a 77 in the round, which ranks 59th overall. Jessica Gregory is tied for 86th after posting a first round score of 81. Heidi Baek was right behind Gregory and rounded out the group by shooting an 82.

Miami, the host team, currently sits atop the leaderboard with a score of 284.

Maryland will look to move up on the leaderboard as it continues play on Tuesday.

The second round of the three-day event begins at 7:30 a.m. Golfers will tee off in eight-minute intervals from both the No. 1 and No. 10 tees. Wednesday's final round will commence with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
