COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men’s soccer team will embark on a tour of Manchester and London, England this March during Spring Break which will include closed door international friendlies against Development teams from Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace. Dates and times will be finalized at a later date.
The Terps will spend valuable time across the pond, training and competing in England at venues including the Aon Training Complex (Manchester United), Tottenham Hotspur Training Centre and Beckenham Town Football Club (Crystal Palace).
“This is a trip that has been in the works for many years and I am proud we have made this incredible opportunity a reality,” head coach Sasho Cirovski said. “We have taken on a very ambitious schedule and I am looking forward to seeing how we measure up.
“It may be unprecedented to have an American college team play three representative BPL teams in such a short span. These prestigious clubs are showing tremendous respect for the University of Maryland by adding us to their schedule and we are very appreciative for the opportunity.”
The Terps will have the opportunity to attend Barclay’s Premier League matches and training sessions throughout their stay.
“In addition to the tremendous competition we will face on the field, our players will get to experience live BPL games, see training sessions and of course, most importantly , be immersed in the rich history and culture of England.
“I want to publicly thank Murray Abrams, Executive Vice President at Capital One, for spearheading our fundraising efforts for this fantastic trip. In addition, I’d like to recognize the role played by the Starting XI, our elite level ‘Friends of’ group. I also want to express my gratitude to Under Armour for facilitating our lodging and training.”
Excel International Sports will play host to Maryland’s British venture.
