The Terrapins (20-5, 8-4 ACC) announced Tuesday that Alyssa Thomas will have her name and number honored in the rafters at Comcast Center immediately following the Terrapins’ game vs. Virginia Tech on March 2, which is Senior Day.
Thomas will be the ninth Terrapin to be honored by the program, joining the likes of Marissa Coleman, Shay Doron, Laura Harper, Crystal Langhorne and Kristi Toliver. The jerseys of Vicky Bullett, Tara Heiss and Jasmina Perazic are all retired.
Thomas is just 97 points from breaking Crystal Langhorne’s school scoring record of 2,247. Thomas’ 1,124 career rebounds are 106 shy of Langhorne’s record of 1,229. With her 58th career double-double vs. Duke Monday, Thomas needs just three to surpass Langhorne’s record of 59.
Florida State (17-8, 5-7) is coming off of a 76-73 loss to Miami Sunday. The Terrapins own the all-time series, 25-15. They split the meetings last year, with Maryland winning 71-64 in College Park on Jan. 6 and the Seminoles edging the Terps, 72-71 on Feb. 28 in Tallahassee.
The Terrapins are ranked No. 8 in the latest Associated Press poll and No. 9 in the USA Today Coaches poll.
The Terrapins will play at Georgia Tech (17-9, 7-6) Sunday at 4 p.m. The Terps-Yellow Jackets game will be shown on ESPN2, ESPN3.com and the Watch ESPN app.
