Terps Take Big Apple Indoor Title

FEASTERVILLE, Pa. - Maryland won the Big Apple Indoor Tournament in Feasterville, Pa. for the fourth straight year over the weekend. The red Terrapin team won beat Albany, 4-3 for the title.

The Terrapins were divided into two teams and played each other in the semifinals. The Red team won that match 4-3 in a shootout and advanced to play Albany in the final.

The team passed Albany 3-1, with Courtney Deena, Anna Dessoye and Sarah Sprink scoring in the win. Sprink was named tournament MVP.

"Playing competitive indoor hockey and preparing for the Big Apple tournament has become an integral part of our yearly plan," head coach Missy Meharg said. "The rules and playing numbers provide discipline for technical skills and consistent communication for tactical growth. The players, the staff and Terp family and fans helped bring the trophy back to College Park."

Fairfield, Drexel and Rutgers also competed in the tournament.
