COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Nick Faust scored a career-high 20 points, and Maryland defeated Wake Forest 71-60 Tuesday night to kick off a two-game homestand.

Faust, a junior guard, went 7 for 11 from the floor and sank four 3-pointers. Charles Mitchell contributed 12 points and Jake Layman added 11 for the Terrapins (15-12, 7-7 Atlantic Coast Conference).

"I'm proud of my group," said head coach Mark Turgeon. "We had some guys step up tonight. Nick Faust was terriffic. I thought his passing was great and so was his defense. He scored, defended, made free throws, rebounded and did a lot of good things to help us win tonight."

Maryland has eight straight wins over Wake Forest, the longest run in a series that began in 1953 and will end after this season.

Travis McKie scored 16 for the Demon Deacons (14-12, 4-9) and Devin Thomas had 11 points and 15 rebounds. Wake Forest went 3 for 15 from 3-point range and 9 for 20 at the free throw line.

"I always love playing against Devin Thomas," Mitchell said. "Playing against players who give it their all every time is always fun."

The Terps have nearly a full week of rest before hosting top-ranked Syracuse Monday, Feb. 24 in Comcast Center at 7 p.m on ESPN.
