The Maryland football team’s home schedule for the 2014 season, its first as a member of the Big Ten, is set and features matchups against defending Big Ten champion Michigan State and Ohio State.
The slate includes six home games with two non-conference contests and four dates against Big Ten foes.
Maryland opens the 2014 season against James Madison on Saturday, Aug. 30. It will mark the third all-time matchup between the Terps and Dukes. Maryland has won the two previous meetings including a 38-35 overtime victory in 2009.
Two weeks later, the Terps welcome West Virginia to Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 13. Maryland will be looking for its second consecutive win over the Mountaineers after defeating WVU, 37-0, this past season.
On Saturday, Oct. 4, Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium and Maryland plays host to its first-ever Big Ten contest when Ohio State visits College Park. This will be the first meeting between the two schools. The Buckeyes earned a trip to the Orange Bowl after falling to Michigan State in the Big Ten title game.
The Iowa Hawkeyes pay a visit to College Park on Saturday, Oct. 18. It will also mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The Hawkeyes are coming off an 8-5 season and a trip to the Outback Bowl.
Maryland’s third home conference matchup sees the Terps welcome Big Ten and Rose Bowl champion Michigan State on Saturday, Nov. 15. This will be the first time the two teams have met since 1950, when Maryland won 34-7.
The Terps close the regular season at home against Rutgers, who will also be making its Big Ten debut in 2014, on Saturday, Nov. 29. Maryland is 5-4 all-time against the Scarlet Knights, who last played in College Park in 2009.
