BETHESDA, Md. – Maryland men’s basketball player Jacob Susskind and field hockey players Maxine Fluharty and Sarah Sprink spent time meeting fans and connecting with the community this past Sunday evening as they took part in the Family Sports Night event at Congregation Beth El in Bethesda, Md. The trio was given the opportunity to share their experiences and stories as Maryland student-athletes with those in attendance.

In addition to Susskind, Fluharty, and Sprink, many local athletes and broadcasters were also participating in this event.  Former Maryland men’s basketball assistant coach Michael Adams, Comcast SportsNet anchor Rob Carlin, Capitals play-by-play announcer Joe Beninati and a few Baltimore Ravens, Washington Wizards, and Hamilton Nationals were in attendance, as well.

“This event was a great way to take a step back and connect with the community,” Susskind said. “It was nice to see people smile and learn what I’ve been through coming from a small Jewish day school to now playing at Maryland.”

Organized by Terrapin Club Scholarship Fund donor, Joe Hoffman, the event gave fans the opportunity to connect with local athletes on a more personal level. Those in attendance were able to hear the student-athlete’s stories, in addition to receiving autographs and taking pictures.

“The event was great,” Fluharty said. “It was amazing to be surrounded by such a talented group of athletes and to be inspiring a group of grounded individuals in a social low key setting. It was fun to be able to interact on a more personable level. Overall it was a fun night and a great event.”
