The Maryland gymnastics team opens EAGL competition Sunday afternoon as it travels to Chapel Hill, N.C., to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels at 2 p.m.

Maryland (1-1, 0-0 EAGL) is coming off of a win in its home opener last weekend against West Virginia. The Terps trailed most of the meet, but dominated on floor in the fourth rotation and defeated the Mountaineers by 0.175.

Maryland has had strong performances from a number of gymnasts, most prominently Kathy Tang and Katy Dodds. The two were vital parts of Maryland’s comeback against West Virginia as they tied for first on floor and helped to clinch the win.

Stephanie Giameo has been a solid performer on all four events as the Terps’ only gymnast to compete in the all-around in both meets.

Scouting the Tar Heels:

Carolina (2-2, 2-1 EAGL) participated in NC State’s invitational meet last weekend. The Tar Heels defeated Towson, but fell to Michigan and NC State. The week before, Carolina defeated NC State in a dual meet.  Based on average score, Carolina ranks third in the EAGL with 193.275 per meet.
