COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Each week during the 2013-14 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week. This week's Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week is freshman Shatori Walker-Kimbrough of the women's basketball team after her team-high 15-point performance in a win over Wake Forest.

Shatori Walker-Kimbrough had a tough choice to make. Would she play Division I volleyball, basketball or run track in college?

Walker-Kimbrough had coaches in all three sports looking at her. Basketball coaches from nearby Duquesne and Pitt offered her scholarships before ninth grade. Her track coach passed on footage to college coaches. Soon, the highly-successful Penn State volleyball program came knocking.

"They started coming to my practices and they videotaped my practices," Walker-Kimbrough said.

"But I didn't want to waste their time. I was playing basketball all the way. That's where my heart was."

In her first trip ever to College Park, Walker-Kimbrough,an Aliquippa, Pa. native, came with a friend to Maryland's elite camp in the summer before her junior year. It wasn't long after her trip south that head coach Brenda Frese and her staff came calling.

"I wanted a home away from home and they just made me feel so comfortable," Walker-Kimbrough said. "Everything Coach B said, is genuine and she holds true to her word. I don't want for anything. If I need something, I can call her and she and anyone will be there."

Her decision has so far been the right one, as she's the sixth-ranked Terps' second-leading scorer with 11.7 points per game and leads the ACC in three-point field goal percentage (52.9%). She's already racked up two ACC Rookie of the Week honors.

"I just wanted to make an impact this year and play," Walker-Kimbrough said. "I felt like I could, but I didn't know what to expect. This year has been really good so far. I've gotten so much support from so many people. It's awesome."
