Head Coach Randy Edsall

Opening Statement:

“There is no secret to what we’ve got to do this upcoming week against Boston College. We need to stop the run and Andre Williams, who is just an outstanding player. He’s got outstanding speed and is very powerful. He is in front of a big offensive line. They run the ball extremely well and use their play action game off the running game, so we got our hands full there. Also their defense brings a lot of different pressures and looks to you, so we just have to have a great week of preparation and focus. We need to concentrate to give ourselves an opportunity to win on Saturday.”

On Boston College running back Andre Williams:

“He’s carried it 43 times last week and he’s running strong at the end of the game as well as in the beginning. He’s a very good back and has got the ability to bend and run you over. You’re not going to wrap your arms around this guy. You’ve got to put your shoulder into him and run your feet. You need more than one person there. He’s very impressive on tape. He’s having a heck of a year and should be mentioned for all of the awards that are out there, in terms of All-American, Doak Walker, Heisman and all of the other things included.”

On play of the offensive line and defensive line against Virginia Tech:

“I thought the offensive line did a good job of helping us win and doing the things that we needed to do. I would expect that they would be a little bit better this week, as all five of them will be playing together again. There are things that we did well and other things that we need to work on and get better at. We will this week. I thought our defensive line really stepped it up. Anytime that you have seven sacks in a game, you’re doing pretty well. You are holding a team that has really been noted to run the ball and hold them to [54] yards rushing. I think they did a good job as well as the linebackers, the front seven. We’re going to need that kind of effort and intensity again this week. We have a stiffer challenge this week in terms of the run game.”

On quarterback C.J. Brown running effectively against Virginia Tech:

“I think that C.J. was the healthiest he’s been since the Florida State game and again, you talk about confidence, he had more confidence in his own ability to be able to run and do the things that he knows he’s capable of doing. I think that’s always a big part because the last stretch of games, when I talked to him he just felt like he couldn’t have that burst and couldn’t have that explosion that he normally has. If you don’t feel that then your confidence doesn’t allow you to do those things and I think it’s tough. He had that feeling back in his body, his legs and everything else. There were just some things that happened there early in the game that in terms of what they were doing, I went up to him early there, probably in the first quarter, and I said ‘Hey, don’t hesitate now to just take off with the ball when you go back there.’ Because they were playing man coverage and they were empty in the box and it was opening things up so being the smart guy that he is, he dropped back and he would see what was taking place and knew that he might take a quick look to his first read and if it wasn’t there, it opened up and went. I think that’s just a smart thing to do because if they’re going to give you that what’s the difference if you can throw it for five [yards] or if you can run it for 25 or whatever, your still gaining yardage. If you drive him out of that, then it creates other opportunities for everybody else. So it’s just doing the things, observing what people are doing and trying to take advantage of what they’re doing is what gives your team the best opportunity to win and C.J. did a great job with that.”

On the emotion of Senior Day:

“I think anytime its Senior Day it’s always a special day for those young men and really for the program, but especially for those young men for the last time to come out of the locker room and come out here and play at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium is very touching and everybody wants to do their part to send their seniors out victorious. It’s a bunch of guys that are good guys, that are hard workers, and guys that have given a lot to this program and to this university and we’re thankful for that. I really believe they’ll all be very successful in what they do and you’re proud of each and every one of them.”

Quarterback C.J. Brown

On getting the season’s sixth win on Saturday:

“It was a huge win for us, get that monkey off our back and to have two games left and another great opportunity this week to add on and get number seven.”

On Boston College’s defense:

“I was here when [defensive coordinator] Don Brown was here so we’ve seen this defense numerous times; saw him last year when he was at UConn. They give you a lot of different looks, they try to disguise a lot of different things, and they bring lots of pressure. It will be a good challenge for us; they’ve played well this year. It will be a good challenge.”

On his confidence level following Saturday’s win:

“I feel very confident. It was just a matter of if I could go out there and execute physically the way I knew I could. I feel 100 percent, I’m back to normal, and I’m ready to go this week.”

Defensive back A.J. Hendy

On getting the sixth win of the season:

“It was definitely big, it’s the first time we’ve been bowl eligible in a couple years. We’re looking for more because six doesn’t guarantee much.”

On what the defense did differently last week:

“I can’t put my finger on it, but we played with a lot of energy, and we were better on third down last week than we have been in the past few weeks.”

On seeing head coach Randy Edsall celebrate following the Virginia Tech win:

“It’s good to see stuff like that, you don’t want to see him walking across the field looking dejected, you want your coach to be happy and win those types of games.”

Linebacker Marcus Whitfield

On if there was any celebration following the sixth win:

“No, really we just take the sixth win as the next step forward. Looking forward to going out this week at practice and getting ready for Boston College.”

On stopping Boston College running back Andre Williams:

“Just listen to the coaches, they are going to give us the game plan this week, understand what their advantages and disadvantages are, and just really take it as any other game.”
