Scouting the Terps
2013 Maryland Terrapins: 10-8, (2-4 ACC)
Digital Media Guide
The Terps struggled in their first road trip of the season last weekend, as they fell to No. 21 Florida State and Miami. Mary Cushman had a double-double in the Florida State match, while Adreene Elliott turned in one of her best individual matches against Miami. The junior had a career-high .636 hitting perecentage in the match (15k, 1e, 22a).
Maryland has performed well as a team defensively this season, ranking second in the conference in blocks (2.7/s) and fourth in digs (15.07/s). Senior Sarah Harper continues her torrid dig pace, leading the ACC for the third straight week with 4.97 digs/s (34th nationally).
Scouting the Orange
2013 Syracuse Orange: 6-12, (1-5 ACC)
All-Time Series: Maryland leads, 9-6
Last Meeting: 9/6/02, UMD (3-0)
Last Cuse Win: 9/29/90 (3-2)
Syracuse has struggled thus far in its debut season in the ACC, notching just one victory in its first six conference contests. The Orange are towards the bottom of a number of statistical catergories in the conference, including assists (10.76), digs (11.65) and kills (11.57).
Lindsay McCabe has been strong at the net this season, raking sixth in the ACC in blocks (1.20). The junior has tallied at least four blocks in seven of her last eight games, including a 12-block performance at Virginia last Friday. Sophomore Silvi Uattara leads Syracuse with 3.51 kills this season with a .295 hitting percentage.
This is just the second meeting between the pair of sides in over 20 years. Maryland won the last meeting on September 6, 2002 in straight sets, while Syracuse's last victory in the series came on September 29, 1990, 3-2.
Scouting the Eagles
2013 Boston College Eagles: 8-10 (0-6 ACC)
All-Time Series: Maryland leads, 11-6
Last Meeting: 11/24/12, Maryland (3-1)
Last BC Win: 9/7/12 (3-0)
Losers of eight consecutive games in a row, the Eagles are in desperate search of a victory to turn their season around. Boston College has been dismal in conference play, winning just four of a possible 22 sets.
Sophomore Katty Workman is the clear leader offensively for Boston College, ranking fourth in the conference in kills with 3.85 kills/s. Workman will be getting her attempts on passes from junior Kellie Barnum, who has 586 assists on the season.
Chris Campbell is in his fourth season at the helm for the Eagles.
With her 10th and final kill against Miami Sunday, senior Mary Cushman surpassed Elizabeth Efron ('95-'97) for fifth all-time on the Maryland career kills list. Cushman currently has 1,187 kills to her name.
If Cushman continues to collect kills at her current rate, she will likely finish fourth all-time in Maryland history.
Senior Sarah Harper rarely grabs the headlines for her dirty work on defense, but the libero has been nothing short of consistent this season for the Terps. Harper recently surpassed the 1,500 career digs mark, and currently ranks fourth in Maryland history with 1,547.
Harper leads the ACC with 4.97 digs/s. She is just 121 digs away from the Maryland all-time record, and needs about 26 more sets to break the record if she continues at her current pace.
Sophomore Kelsey Hrebenach tallied 12 blocks (1s, 11a) in the Terps' four-set victory over the Cavaliers two weekends ago, becoming the first Maryland player to accomplish the feat since 2011. The mark is tied for the highest this season in the conference for a four-set match.
Maryland had 31 blocks as a team against Virginia and Virginia Tech, including 18 against the Cavs. The 18 blocks is a season-high for the Terps.
Freshman Ashlyn MacGregor was named ACC Freshman of the Week two weeks ago for career-best efforts against Virginia and Virginia Tech. It is MacGregor's first career conference honor.
The freshman had a memorable weekend at the net, hitting at a .447 clip with 20 kills and 11 blocks over the course of two matches. MacGregor's 12 kills against Virginia Tech were a career-high.
Head Coach Tim Horsmon
Tim Horsmon is in his sixth season in charge of the Maryland volleyball team and earned his 300th career victory against Georgia Tech earlier this season. All three coaches in Maryland volleyball history garner at least 300 career victories.
