Hello Terps:

We are midway through our exciting Fall Sports Season and there are many different student-athletes, teams and coaches that deserve some well-earned recognition.

· I salute our women’s cross country team for some outstanding early season performances this fall. Freshman Hannah Mansbach has emerged on to the scene as one of the team’s top finishers. Senior Becky Yep has returned to the lineup to build on her strong 2012 campaign.

· I salute our No. 1 field hockey team, the only undefeated team in the country. Missy Meharg and her staff are at it once again with a 12-0 record, 3-0 in ACC play and the nation's top offense. They have big games at home the next three Friday nights, and we can't wait to see how their season unfolds.

· I salute our football team for their 4-1 start and the exciting opportunity we have in our ACC home opener against Virginia. We are excited to welcome back our team with a great crowd and atmosphere at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium for the first time in 35 days.

· I salute our men’s golfers, who have been hard at work on the course preparing for their spring season. Ben Warnquist and Sean Bosdosh finished in the top 10 at a tournament in Richmond last week, and they are all on their way to being ready for the season.

· I salute our women's golf team, which has seen several student-athletes step up through the first three tournaments of the fall season. Juliet Vongphoumy led the Terps with a third-place finish last weekend at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate.

· I salute our men's soccer team, which is really beginning to hit their stride this season. Head coach Sasho Cirovski and his staff have the fifth-ranked Terps in first place in the ACC standings with an unbeaten record of 4-0-2. Maryland battles Virginia in Charlottesville on Comcast SportsNet tonight at 7 p.m.

· I salute Jonathan Morgan and our women's soccer team which has played one of the toughest schedules in the country and has earned some big victories, including a win over then-No. 3 Wake Forest on Sept. 22. I hope all of Terp Nation comes out on Sunday to support them on Sunday when they host Duke at Ludwig Field at 1 p.m.

· I salute the Terrapin volleyball team, which has recorded a bevy of milestones during the season. Head coach Tim Horsmon earned his 300th career victory, Sarah Harper became the fourth player in Maryland history to notch 1,500 digs and Mary Cushman eclipsed 1,000 kills. The 10-6 Terps are in Florida this weekend for important ACC contests against FSU and Miami.

· I salute Maryland great Boomer Esiason who will be honored at our game on Saturday with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Terrapin Club and will also be recognized as a 2013 ACC Legends in Charlotte in December.

· I salute Johnny Holliday for his 35 Years as the Voice of the Maryland Terrapins. We look forward to recognizing him for his commitment, dedication and service to our University at a halftime celebration Saturday.

We look forward to continuing this impressive run and appreciate everyone’s support for the Terps. I look forward to seeing you on campus over the weekend.

Go Terps!
