The Maryland women’s golf team will play in its second tournament of the 2013 fall season when it heads to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for the Starmount Fall Classic beginning Monday.
The 15-team field includes UNCG, Campbell, Gardner-Webb, Western Carolina, Richmond, James Madison, Jacksonville, Elon, High Point, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, North Florida, Stetson, and Wofford.
Tee time is scheduled for an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start on Monday for the first round at Starmount Forest Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. Starmount is a Par 71, 6,265-yard course. Tuesday’s round will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
Maryland’s lineup for the tournament is Juliet Vongphounmy, Emily Gimpel, Heidi Baek, Panitta Yusbai, and Alexandra Papell. Jess Gregory will be playing individually in the tournament.
The Terps are coming off an 18th place performance at the ultra-competitive Cougar Classic earlier this month.
Senior Emily Gimpel led the Terps in the Cougar Classic placing 50th overall in the tournament and boasting a three round score of 226. Vongphoumy followed Gimpel placing 64th and shooting a 71 in round one, the lowest score for the Terps in the tournament.
Yusabai and Papell made their college debuts in the Cougar Classic and placed 76th and 91st respectively.
Following the Starmount Fall Classic, the Terps will return to competition Monday, October 7 at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate in Greenville, N.C.
