ANNAPOLIS – Freshman Hannah Mansbach continued the strong start to her collegiate career with a fourth-place individual finish to lead Maryland to a second-place team placing Saturday at the Salty Dog Invitational.

Mansbach covered the 6-kilometer course in 21 minutes, 23.6 seconds to lead the Terrapins, who put four runners in the top nine. Mansbach also led the Terps to the line at the season-opening Mount St Mary’s 5K Duals two weeks ago.

Senior Bridget Nolan (21:39.2), junior Myah Hicks (21:40.7) and senior Rebecca Yep (21:42.1) finished in a pack at seventh, eighth and ninth for the Terrapins, who battled host Navy for the team title. Hicks and Yep were making their first competitive runs for the Terrapins this season.

Maryland finished with 49 points, second only to the host Mids, who scored 38 points. Navy put three runners in the top six and its five scorers in the top 17, while Maryland had four in the top 10 and six runners in the top 22 in a battle for the team title.

Junior Annie-Norah Beveridge of Navy was the individual winner in 20:46.3 on the USNA Golf Club course. The Mids put their first four finishers in first, third, sixth and 11th to edge the Terps for the win.

Sophomore Katie Nappi was 21st overall for Maryland in 22:12.2, followed by Karrah O’Halloran at 22:15.6.

American was third in the team standings Saturday with 59 points. The Eagles placed senior Julia Sullivan in fifth, and had four runners finish in a pack between 12th and 15th to finish behind the Midshipmen and the Terrapins.

Navy was sixth in the first USTFCCCA regional rankings, while Maryland was 12th in the preseason poll.

Freshman Sydney Almeida was 27th for Maryland in 22:21.8, with Maeve McCoy (36th, 22:45.7) and Chardé Barnes (37th, 22:47.4) completing the top eight for the Terps.

Catherine Sheffo (40th, 22:52.4) and Alexa Squirini (65th, 23:52.7) also ran for Maryland on Saturday.

Maryland competes next in two weeks at the Lehigh Paul Short Run, getting an early look at the course that will host the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in November.
