Terps Tied for 13th at Cougar Classic

Juliet Vongphoumy led the Terps with a 71 as the Terrapins enter day two tied for 13th after opening action at the Cougar Classic in Sunday in Hanahan, S.C. 

Vongphoumy is tied for 10th after posting a -1 on day one of the classic.  The junior picked up birdies on holes No. 2, 5, 10, 14 and 17. She also notched a birdie on par-5 No. 15 to snag a 71 for the day.

Heidi Baek, Emily Gimpel and Panitta Yusabai head into day two tied for 61st after going +4 (76). Baek notched birdies on No. 14 and 15 while Gimpel recorded birdies on par-5 holes No. 9 and 15. Yusabai, who is playing in her first collegiate action this week, tallied four birdies on holes No. 2, 13, 15, and 18.

Fellow freshman Alexandria Papell heads into Monday tied for 96th with an 80.

Mississippi State leads the field with a -6 (282) after the first day. The Terps posted a +11 (299) for the first round.

Maryland begins Monday’s play at 8 a.m. at the Yeamans Halls Club.
