Past and present Maryland wrestlers were among the contingent that participated in the eighth annual Wrestling Golf Outing at the University of Maryland Golf Course Friday. 123 in total played in the event, which is used to support the wrestling program.
“This creates an atmosphere for our fans and alumni to meet our guys,” assistant coach and event organizer Mike Catullo said. “Today is just fun and relaxed. The guys get to interact with our fans and families. They’re excited [for the season].”
The day started with breakfast before play began. The time on the course gave Terrapin wrestling alums a chance to build relationships with members of the current squad.
“It’s fantastic to come back and meet all the young wrestlers,” 1987 All-American Curt Scovel said. “It’s cool to get everybody back together again. It makes them remember what they did when they were here and what it did for them.”
A group lunch and an awards ceremony capped off the event.
“It gets everybody charged up for the season,” head coach Kerry McCoy said. “We’ve got all of our guys back. From the day the NCAA Tournament ends to this week, it’s all about anticipation and trying to get better. Now we’re ready to go.”
