Crutcher, Elliott Named Preseason All-ACC

GREENSBORO, N.C.   Maryland juniors Ashleigh Crutcher and Adreené Elliott have been named to the 2013 Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Team, the league announced on Monday.

An honorable mention All-American last season, Crutcher led the Terps in kills (443) averaging 3.79 per set. The Raleigh, N.C., native had the second-most kills in the ACC and ranked third in kills per set. Crutcher’s 443 kills is the sixth most in a single-season in school history and helped Crutcher grab All-ACC honors and AVCA All-East Region honorable mention honors, as well.

Elliott, a native of Winston-Salem, N.C., was the most efficient hitter on the team. Elliott converted 36.3 percent of her attacks to finish fourth in the conference in hitting percentage. Her average is the fourth-highest in a single season in school history and for her career, Elliott is hitting .310, the fifth-best average all-time. A member of the 2011 ACC All-Freshman team, Elliott also led the team in blocks (119) last season.

 A total of 10 teams were represented on the 2013 Preseason All-ACC Team. Miami led all conference schools with four selections, followed by Duke, Florida State, Maryland, North Carolina and Notre Dame with two selections apiece.

The Terps return 12 letterwinners from a year ago and were picked to finish 10th by the league’s head coaches. Two-time defending champion Florida State was a unanimous selection to win the league.

The Terps open their season on Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. against George Washington at the GW/Nike Invitational.
