COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Head coach Brenda Frese and the Maryland women’s basketball team announced the hiring of two University of Maryland alums and longtime members of the program Friday. Libby Ellis was named the program’s director of basketball operations and Winston Gandy was hired as the director of recruiting operations.
Ellis, a 2012 graduate of the University, was a four-year manager for the Terrapins. In her senior season, she served as a director of operations intern, assisting with all responsibilities of scheduling, travel planning and general program operations. She earned her degree in kinesiology and after graduation, she was hired as the director of recruiting operations.
"We're ecstatic for Libby to move into our director of basketball operations position,” Frese said. “She is more than ready for this next step in her career. Libby is highly organized, relates extremely well with our players and staff and is passionate about our team and program. She is a rising star in the making."
Gandy was a four-year practice player for the Terrapins. He graduated this past May with his degree in economics.
"Winston won all of us over with his selflessness for our program the last four years as a scout team player,” Frese said. “We are excited for Winston to now transition on to our staff as the director of recruiting operations. His work ethic and passion are second to none. What an impact he will continue to make for us."
The Terrapins went 26-8 in the 2012-13 season and advanced to the program’s fifth Sweet Sixteen in Frese’s 11 years. This year, the Terps return four of five starters, two-time ACC Player of the Year Alyssa Thomas, and bring on four talented newcomers in Lexie Brown, A’Lexus Harrison, Brionna Jones and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough.
