Former Maryland guard Logan Aronhalt has signed a 10-month contract to play basketball with Assigeco Casalpusterlengo in Italy.

Aronhalt, who averaged 6.0 points per game as an off-the-bench 3-point threat in his lone season with the Terrapins, signed a contract last Friday while playing in a Las Vegas showcase and will leave for Italy on August 15.

With Casalpusterlengo, Aronhalt will have an opportunity to display his scoring ability after knocking down 43.4 percent of his 3-point attempts last season.

“I think it was a big piece,” said Aronhalt of his ability to score. “European teams bring over Americans to score quite a bit. I think I will have a role as a scorer and a be a central part of the offense. I’m excited to see how I fit in, meet and play with my new teammates. It’s an exciting opportunity for me.”

A third-division Italian team, Casalpusterlengo finished fourth in its division last season and is located about 40 miles south of Milan. It won’t be the first time Aronhalt has traveled to the country.

“I played in two tournaments in Italy in high school and I loved it,” said Aronhalt. “I stayed with an Italian family when I played over there for a couple weeks in high school and just enjoyed the entire experience. It’s a beautiful country.”

Aronhalt was also able to lean on another former Terp who has been playing overseas for advice.

“I talked with Sean Mosley and he really enjoyed his time [overseas],” said Aronhalt. “You have to be enjoy being away from home and immersing yourself to their culture.”

While he’s hopeful for a long career in professional basketball, Aronhalt is just six credits shy of earning his master’s degree in exercise physiology and plans to return to College Park next summer to finish his coursework.

Though he was only at Maryland for one year, he says his time with the staff helped him immensely in preparing for the next step in his career.

“I learned a lot from Coach Turgeon. I just admire how he is open and honest and we always knew where we stood and what we needed to do to improve individually and collectively… Playing at Maryland really helped my stock.”
