2013 Maryland Volleyball Schedule

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A trip to Ann Arbor to play in the Michigan Invitational and a matchup with 2012 national semifinalist Michigan highlights a 32-game schedule for the 2013 Maryland volleyball season, which was announced Wednesday by head coach Tim Horsmon.

Including its match against the Wolverines, the Terps face seven NCAA tournament teams from last season with four of the matchups on the road. LIU Brooklyn, NC State and North Carolina will make a trip to College Park.

Maryland opens its season on Aug. 30 at the GW/Nike Invitational with a match against host George Washington. The following day, the Terps conclude the tournament with matches against Mississippi and UMBC.

The Terps begin their home schedule the following weekend with the first of two consecutive tournaments as they play host to LIU Brooklyn, Penn and UMKC on Sept. 6-7. Maryland then welcomes George Mason, New Hampshire and Villanova to Comcast Pavilion on Sept. 13-14.

In a final tune up for its ACC schedule, Maryland hits the road for the Michigan Invitational. The Terps will face Michigan and Ohio on day one (Sept. 20), and close the event against Marshall (Sept. 21).

"This a great pre-conference schedule to transition into the ACC season," said Horsmon. "We start right away with a really solid program in George Washington and a very well coached and tough Ole Miss program. That second weekend we'll have our annual traditional match with Villanova which is always a great match to watch.

"The final tournament is at Michigan, which played in the Final Four last year and brings back all of its top point scorers, along with a matchup against a very good Ohio team."

The Terps open their conference slate with four consecutive home matches beginning with Georgia Tech on Sept. 27. The matchup with the Yellow Jackets is followed by visits from Clemson (Sept. 29), Virginia (Oct. 4) and Virginia Tech (Oct. 6).

Maryland then travels to the Sunshine State to face defending ACC champion Florida State (Oct. 11) and ends the weekend at Miami (Oct. 13).

The Terps get their first look at new conference foe Syracuse on Oct. 18 at Comcast Pavilion before welcoming Boston College to College Park on Oct. 20. Maryland follows its clash with the Eagles with a trips to North Carolina (Oct. 25) and NC State (Oct. 26).

Maryland has one home match and one road match the week of Oct. 28. Pittsburgh comes to town on Oct. 30 with a trip to South Bend to face Notre Dame looming on Nov. 1.

The following weekend, the Terps play two of their final three home matches. Duke and Wake Forest take on the Terps on Nov. 8 and Nov. 10, respectively.

Following their matchup with the Demon Deacons, the Terps hit the road for three straight beginning with Boston College (Nov. 15). They conclude the road trip with dates at Syracuse (Nov. 17) and Pittsburgh (Nov. 22).

Maryland plays its final home match of the season against North Carolina (Nov. 24) before closing its regular-season campaign at Virginia Tech (Nov. 29) and at Virginia (Nov. 30).

"Our conference schedule will be challenging and quite a bit different with the additions of Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Syracuse," said Horsmon. "The conference is going to be tough once again and has proven to be one of the top four to five conferences in the country in my time at Maryland.

"The schedule sets up well in both the out of conference and ACC for us to have a great RPI and show well to get in to the NCAA tournament."

The Terps return 13 players from a squad that won seven of its final 10 games in 2012, including All-ACC performer and honorable mention All-American Ashleigh Crutcher.
