COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland is set to begin the week with a trip to Richmond to take on VCU on Tuesday and play host to Mt. St. Mary’s on Wednesday. The Terps (19-17) and Rams will get underway at 6 p.m. from The Diamond.
The Terps and Mountaineers are now scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch from Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium.
The matchup with VCU is the second time in a week the Terps and Rams have faced off. Maryland won 6-5 in 11 innings on April 9. The two squads play one more time in College Park on May 8.
On Wednesday at George Mason, the Terps scored a season-high 16 runs and tied a season high with 17 hits. Charlie White has been the team’s catalyst against non-conference opponents. White leads the team with a .418 batting average and a .541 OBP.
White has stolen 23 of his ACC-leading 33 bases against non-conference opponents. On Sunday against Miami, White tied Larry Long for the most stolen bases in a single season in program history. The sophomore will be looking to break the record against the Rams on Tuesday.
The pitching matchup for Maryland and Mt. St. Mary’s has yet to be announced.
Wednesday’s game against Mt. St. Mary’s has been moved from its original 4 p.m. start time. First pitch is now scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium.
Scouting the Rams
After winning Friday night’s series opener against Temple, the Rams (16-17) lost the final two games of the series and have lost six of their past eight games.
As a team, the Rams are hitting .268 and are averaging 4.5 runs per game. James Bunn leads the club with a .325 BA, while Bill Cullen leads the team in slugging (.456) and Taylor Buran leads the team in RBI (17).
RHP Seth Greene is scheduled to start for the Rams Tuesday. Greene is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA. Greene has 11 appearances with three starts this season. In his last start against VMI on April 7, Greene gave up two runs on six hits in 1-1/3 innings pitched.
Scouting the Mountaineers
Mt. St. Mary’s (6-21) has lost six consecutive games after falling to Towson, 12-7, on April 10. Wednesday will be the squad’s first game in a week.
The Mountaineers are batting .263 led by Tom Healy who is hitting .341. Sam Nott leads the club in RBI (27) and home runs (7).
As a staff, Mt. St. Mary’s sports a 7.10 ERA and has given up double-digit runs in five of its past six games.
