Tianna Hawkins Invited to WNBA Draft

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Tianna Hawkins of the Maryland women's basketball team is one of 12 players to attend the 2013 WNBA Draft Monday, April 15 at ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Conn. Hawkins ended her Terrapin career as one of the best rebounders in school history.

Hawkins earned AP All-America Honorable Mention honors and made the All-ACC First Team this year. She finished her career No. 11 on Maryland's all-time scoring list with 1,595 points and No. 3 in rebounds with 1,086. She is the third Terrapin in history to break 1,000 rebounds, behind only Crystal Langhorne and Marissa Coleman. She scored in double figures in 31 of 34 games this season and notched 17 double-doubles. She was No. 2 in the ACC in scoring (18.0) and rebounding (9.7).

The Phoenix Mercury holds the top pick in the WNBA Draft presented by State Farm. Rounding out this year's top five picks are the Chicago Sky (second), Tulsa Shock (third), Washington Mystics (fourth), and the New York Liberty (fifth). For full draft coverage, log on to

Seven of head coach Crystal Langhorne went sixth and Laura Harper was the 10th pick in the 2008 draft.

The 2013 WNBA Draft will make history as it will be televised on prime time television for the first time in the league's 17-year history. ESPN2 will provide coverage and analysis of the first round beginning at 8 p.m. ET from ESPN in Bristol, Conn. ESPNU will air the second and third rounds beginning at 9 p.m. ET. The Terrapins went 26-8 on the year, finished second in the ACC and advanced to their fifth Sweet Sixteen in head coach Brenda Frese's 11 years. Frese has led the Terrapins to nine NCAA Tournament appearances four Elite Eights, a Final Four and the 2006 NCAA Championship.
