NORFOLK, Va. - Four members of the Maryland field hockey program were named to the U.S. Women's National Team after competing in this week's High Performance National Championships in Norfolk, Va. Current Terrapins Natalie Hunter, Ali McEvoy and Jill Witmer, and alum Katie O'Donnell were selected to the 30-spot roster by U.S. head coach Craig Parnham.

This is the first National Team selection for McEvoy and Hunter. McEvoy was a member of the U.S. Under-21 team for the past few years, as well as the U.S. Indoor National Team. Witmer was selected to a Brazil tour with the National Team in March. O'Donnell has earned 133 caps with the U.S. National Team over the last few years and competed in the 2012 London Olympics.

"We are absolutely thrilled for these four amazing Terps," head coach Missy Meharg said. Katie O'Donnell has proven herself as such an incredible hockey player and did so again this past week. Jill and Ali have worked their way through the USA Field Hockey system and have been preparing for this moment for a very long time. Natalie was so solid for us last year and took her game to another level this past week at the National Championships. We couldn't be prouder of them and for them to represent our country and the University of Maryland."

"This week has afforded me the opportunity to see players and assess them equally," said Parnham. "It has been great to meet a number of new coaches and we are pleased to have had a thorough look at the players. The selection process has been ongoing throughout the week, including discussions and dialogue with coaches, daily meetings, and assessing and reassessing the players."

"We are pleased to have selected 30 athletes who will make up the Women's National Squad as we move forward. These players will relocate to the Home of Hockey in Lancaster, Pa. this fall. This is a wonderful opportunity for this group of players to learn, develop, grow - and build on the progress of the team. We are really looking forward to starting this new chapter."

The athletes selected to the U.S. Women's National Squad will report immediately to Rutgers University to begin preparations for the International Hockey Federation's World League Semifinal in London, June 22-30.
