MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The University of Maryland women's soccer team wrapped up its competitive spring season with an undefeated 5-0-1 mark after tying 2012 Big 12 champion West Virginia, 2-2, at Dick Deisk Soccer Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Rising sophomores Alexis Prior-Brown and Ashley Spivey scored for the Terps. Prior-Brown scored the game's lone goal in the first half to give Maryland a 1-0 lead, but West Virginia put two on the board and Spivey also netted a second-half goal for the 2-2 tie.
"Today was filled with some really good moments and some not so good moments," said Maryland head coach Jonathan Morgan. "I thought we showed very good composure in possession, but we lacked a bit of a killer instinct in the attacking half of the field. Defensively, we didn't take enough pride in our individual defending and therefore we gave up some atypical goals for us. Credit West Virginia for exposing us in some areas of the game we hadn't seen in previous matches. I think we learned some good lessons today."
Maryland will officially close out its spring season with Alumni Weekend on April 26-27.
The festivities kick off with a Founders Celebration, honoring the 1983 alumni from the original club team that blossomed into the varsity program on Friday, April 26, 2013, at 7:00 at the South Suites Lobby in Comcast Center.
