CARY, N.C - The 11th-seeded Maryland women's tennis team will face fifth-seeded Georgia Tech in the opening round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championships, Thursday at 9 a.m from the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
The Yellow Jackets defeated the Terrapins (6-15, 1-10 ACC), 4-0, in Atlanta during the regular season. With a victory, the Terps would face No. 4 seed Miami in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Senior Vroni Van Berlo leads the Terps in both singles and doubles. The All-ACC selection paced the Terrapins in singles wins with 10, and defeated three ranked singles opponents over the course of the season.
Freshman Sarah Gealer teams with Van Berlo at No. 1 doubles and slots in at the No. 2 singles spot. Fellow freshmen Olga Bredikhina, Olga Gaistruk, Nataliya Bredikhina and Gabriela Srodowski round out a young Terrapin squad that had freshmen account for 78 percent of the team's singles victories.
