Nathan Pine is the Deputy Athletic Director at the University of Maryland. In addition to sport supervision of Men’s Basketball, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer and Baseball, Pine directly supervises all of the external support units and revenue generation for the department including: development, marketing, media relations, ticket operations and video services. Pine is also responsible for negotiating the majority of the department’s business contracts, overseeing championships, community engagement and the M Club (former letter winners organization) as well as the athletics merchandising and eCommerce operations.
Pine also manages the Under Armour all-sports apparel partnership, the CBS Collegiate Sports Properties partnership and the athletic department’s interests in the University pouring rights contract. This past July, Pine also directed the re-design and launch of umterps.com - the athletic department’s new website, which has a variety of improvements and features to provide Terp fans with the best online experience for following Terrapin athletics.
Prior to arriving in College Park, Pine was at the University of California, Berkeley where he oversaw all aspects of the major gift program and development staff for athletics. Pine led the Building Champions - Endowing the Future capital campaign, an unprecedented $500M athletic fundraising effort. The Building Champions Campaign was and is the largest single unit campaign in the history of the University of California, Berkeley.
Before Cal, Pine spent four years at West Point where he was a key member of the athletic senior leadership team. Pine was responsible for all business initiatives for Army and oversight of the external operations areas for athletics. Pine also represented Army's interests in the coordination and execution of the national "Request for Proposal (RFP)" and contract extension with CBS Sports for the 2010-2018 Army-Navy football games. He oversaw all elements of the Army-Navy commercial sponsorship rights which culminated in 2009 with a lucrative presenting sponsorship by USAA.
A graduate of Oregon State University, Pine was instrumental in the growth in fundraising and the renovation of Reser Stadium in his 5 plus years in Corvallis following graduation. A native of Eagle Point, Oregon, Pine now resides in Fulton, MD and is married to the former Stephanie Strowbridge.
