James Yonushonis joined the Maryland coaching staff in August 2008 after a storied career at Penn State University.

Yonushonis was an All-American in the 174-pound division for the Nittany Lions and spent the last season as a coach on the club team, working with the upper weights.

Yonushonis received numerous accolades at Penn State. He was an NCAA All-American in 2006 and won the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award in 2006 and 2007. Yonushonis was an exemplary student, as well, making the Big Ten All-Academic Team all four years in State College, Pa. Yonushonis was a member of the Penn State Student-Athlete Honor Society in 2006.

In addition to his coaching duties, Yonushonis organized and directed summer wrestling camps. Yonushonis also received prior coaching experience in Ashood, Israel in the Eleven Victims of Munich Memorial Games and as an assistant at Philipsburg-Osceola High School in Philipsburg, Pa.

Yonushonis is currently training for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
