Virginia Defeats Maryland 3-2 in Field Hockey

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Despite two goals from senior Nadine Bennett (Chegutu, Zimbabwe) the University of Maryland field hockey team was defeated by Virginia today 3-2 at the Astroturf Facility. The Terps record dropped to 11-1 (1-1 in the ACC) while the Cavaliers improved to 10-1 (2-0).

Maryland starting goalie Alana Eliwatt (East Brunswick, New Jersey) injured her shoulder during warm-ups and was out of action for the first seven minutes of the game. The Cavaliers capitalized by getting goals from Meredith Elwell and Lori Mastropietro during that time span and never gave up the lead.

Maryland's next game is on Wednesday at James Madison starting at 7:30 P.M.
