Michael Eckert was hired in the spring of 2012 to join the Sports Medicine Department at the University of Maryland, where he serves as the primary athletic trainer for the men’s soccer team. Michael is apart of a great soccer program that has won the ACC regular season and the ACC Tournament twice, in addition to making one Final Four appearance and a National Championship appearance in 2013, since his arrival in College Park.
Michael came to the University of Maryland from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke where he served as an assistant athletic trainer/lecturer. His primary sports were men’s soccer and men’s basketball.
Michael obtained his master’s degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Strength and Conditioning from The George Washington University in 2011. At GWU, Michael served as the primary athletic trainer with the women’s volleyball team for two years. During the 2010-2011 school year, he served as a strength and conditioning coach for GWU. In addition to his graduate work, Michael had a season long internship with the MLS team, D.C. United for the 2010 season.
In 2009, Michael graduated from the University of Connecticut, earning a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training. At UConn, he served as a student athletic trainer for the football and men’s soccer team.
A native of Colorado, Michael currently resides in Silver Spring, Md.
