MANAKIN-SABOT, Va. - Sean Bosdosh of the Maryland men's golf team shot a final-round 71 Tuesday to finish with a 4-under 212 and capture the individual title at the VCU Shootout.
Bosdosh, who held a two-shot lead heading into the final round after shooting 141 (70-71) in 36 holes on Monday, beat Iowa State's Scott Fernandez and Long Beach State's Raymond Ho by two strokes. Bosdosh, Fernandez and Ho were the only players under par of the 69 participants in the field.
The win marks the first collegiate victory for Bosdosh and represents the first individual title for a Terrapin since John Popeck won the Firestone Invitational on Oct. 12, 2010. Bosdosh has now strung together four straight rounds of below-par golf, having shot a 1-under 71 at the final round of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate on Sept. 16.
As a team Maryland finished fourth overall with a 27-over 891 (297-296-298), behind Virginia Tech (878), Wichita State (887) and Long Beach State (888).
Freshman Tom Harris earned his first top-10 finish by vaulting 19 spots on the leaderboard with a final round 69. Harris, who was in a tie for 27th heading into Tuesday's round, shot 220 (75-76-69) for the tournament to tie for eighth.
