College Park, Md. -

The Maryland softball team split two games against Florida State Saturday afternoon at Robert E. Taylor Stadium. In the first game, the Terps prevailed after a walk-off run, 5-4, but then fell in game two, 13-1, in five innings.

The Terps (17-17, 4-1) came from behind in the first game to seal the victory against the Seminoles (27-12, 6-2) in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Lindsey Schmeiser started off Maryland's hitting in the bottom of the first with a solo home run to left center.

Florida State then countered in the top of the second inning when Morgan Bullock scored from second base off a Celeste Gomes pop-up. The Seminoles then broke the 1-1 tie in the top of the fourth inning when Bullock and Bailey Schinella ran home.

Victoria East extended the Seminoles lead, 4-1, in the top of the fifth inning with a solo home run to right center.

Maryland entered the seventh inning down three runs, but Corey Schwartz, Melissa Mancuso, Sara Acosta and Lindsey Schmeiser reached home to win the game, 5-4. With Schwartz on second and Mancuso on first, Acosta got hit by a Monica Perry pitch to load the bases. After two runs off walked batters, Schmeiser reached home off an error by the pitcher and Acosta monopolized the passed ball to score the game-winning run.

In the day's second game, Florida State's hitting dominated. The Terps' only run came in the bottom of the third when Seminole pitcher Lacey Waldrop threw an illegal pitch to advance the runners on first, second and third to send Juli Strange home.

The Seminoles scored nine in the top of the third and four in the top of the fifth inning to solidify their win.

The Terrapins will finish out the three-game series tomorrow at noon. Admission and parking are free. Gametracker live stats will be available and shown live online for a fee on TerpTV Premium.
