Terrapin Women's Lacrosse Team Faces Japanese National Team on Tuesday

Feb. 24, 2001

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's lacrosse team will square off with the Japanese National Team on Tuesday, February 27, in an exhibition tune-up for the start of the Terrapins' regular season. The game will be played at Ludwig Field on the Maryland campus and will begin at 4:00 p.m.

The Terrapins will begin their quest for their seventh straight NCAA title on Friday when they play host to Duke at 7:00 p.m. at Ludwig. Maryland will then play North Carolina -- the only team to hand the Terps a defeat in the last two years -- at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday in another critical Atlantic Coast Conference matchup.

Maryland begins the season as the preseason favorite by many publications to repeat as national champs. Most recently, Sports Illustrated for Women named Maryland as its preseason No. 1.

The Terps were 21-1 a year ago and closed their season with 20 straight wins en route to the crown. Coach Cindy Timchal's team returns two-time national Player of the Year Jen Adams and preseason All-Americans Quinn Carney, Allison Comito, Courtney Hobbs and Tori Wellington.
