BLACKSBURG, Va. - Quotes from head coach Mark Turgeon following Maryland's 60-55 win over Virginia Tech Thursday night.
Head Coach Mark Turgeon
"It was good to get a road win. I thought we started both halves really well. We weren't really good in some stretches, but we did what we had to do to win. We held Green to 29 points and three rebounds, so that was good. We did what we had to do to win the game. We controlled most of the second half and we were getting good looks but had a hard time finishing.
"It is never easy when you are trying to grow up as a team. It was a big challenge going into halftime but I think we had a 14-3 run starting the second half so we are growing up and getting better.
"It is hard to win on the road anywhere. I keep saying that the league is so much better than last year and that is a good team. I told their coach, just keep playing its hard, and it's hard to win. We came out on top tonight.
"I thought the last minute our defense was outstanding. It really was. They hurt us on the boards, but I thought defensively and rebounding in the second half we were much better. It is good for this young team and we have a lot of basketball left.
"They have a great player in Green. He can make any shot that he attempts so it is going to go a long way for us. We are back to .500, 17-6, so its good. It is good for our young team. We have a lot of basketball left."
