Five Terps Earn IWLCA All-South Honors

May 25, 2006

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Five Maryland Terrapins have been named to the All-South Team by the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American Committee. Becky Clipp, Delia Cox and Kelly Kasper were all named to the first team, while Katie Doolittle and Krista Pellizzi were named to the second team.

These athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American teams, which will be announced on May 30.

Maryland's five selections matched Duke and Georgetown for the most in the region on the first and second teams.

Junior defender Becky Clipp helped anchor the Maryland defense all season long. She led the team in groundballs (58) and was second on the team in caused turnovers (31). Clipp also contributed five goals and two assists.

Senior midfielder Delia Cox capped her career with a brilliant senior season, recording career-highs in goals (60), assists (22) and points (82). She started every game of her career, and scored at least a goal or an assist in every game in 2006. In 11 games against ranked opponents, Cox scored 34 goals and 12 assists.

Sophomore midfielder Kelly Kasper was among the top three on the team in six different statistical categories this season. She led the Terps in assists (27), draw controls (62) and caused turnovers (42), was second on the team in goals (44), points (71), and was third in groundballs (44).

Junior midfielder Katie Doolittle followed up a strong 2005 campaign with a solid 2006. She set a career-high in goals (37) and points (42). She scored at least four goals in five games this year -- more than any other Terrapin.

Junior midfielder Krista Pellizzi had a breakout year in 2006 scoring more goals (43), assists (22) and points (65) this year than her previous two seasons combined. She scored a goal in all but three games this year.
