Maryland defeated St. John's, 3-1, in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Stephen King scored two goals, including the game-winner, and Robbie Rogers added a tally as time expired.
The Terps advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the fourth straight year. The game will be at Ludwig Field on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m.
Maryland eliminated St. John's from the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year. The Terps evened the all-time series against the Red Storm at 3-3-0 with all three wins coming consecutively.
Marc Burch had two assists on the game, his fifth and sixth of the year. Burch has had a part of the game-winners in each of Maryland's two NCAA Tournament games this year with a goal against Brown and the game-winning assist today against St. John's.
King's two goals were his 13th and 14th of the season. His game-winner was his fourth this season.
Robbie Rogers had three points with a goal and an assist. He now has seven goals and four assists in his freshman campaign.
Freshman goalie Chris Seitz matched his career high with six saves. The last time he had six saves was the regular season game vs. Duke (Oct. 7). Seitz also earned his first career assist on his goal kick in the waning seconds of the game on Rogers' goal.
Jason Garey assisted on the third and final goal of the game. It was his seventh assist of the season and the 20th of his career. Garey has now scored at least a goal or an assist in 13 of the last 14 games. It was Garey's first career assist in an NCAA Tournament game.
St. John's was ranked 18th in the country in the last regular season poll. The Terps are 9-2-1 this season against ranked opponents.
Maryland improved to 10-0-1 in the last four years in the NCAA Tournament.
The Terps have now scored 60 goals on the season - the third highest total in school history. Maryland set a school record with 62 goals last year.
Maryland and Akron last played in the third round in 2003. The Terps won the game 1-0.
