COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Once again Maryland used its formula for a victory in 2001: early offense and nearly flawless defense as the Terps blanked Loyola, 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at a chilly Ludwig Field.

Maryland senior captain Ali Wolff (Richmond, Va.) recorded two saves for her fifth shutout -- each of the Terps' five wins on the way to a 5-2-1 record through eight games.

Sophomore sensation Jen Biscoe (Baltimore, Md.) got it going early as she took a pass from Kim King (Media, Pa.) and beat Loyola keeper Danielle Ruppel just 2:39 into the game. Biscoe's shot from the right side of the box went into the upper right side of the net.

Maryland dominated the play through the rest of game, but was unable to dent the scoreboard until 3:01 was left in regulation as Courtney Beirne (Westminster, Md.) took a pass from freshman Melissa Anderson (Annapolis, Md.) for the Terps' second goal. Beirne's shot was lofted into the left side of the net past Loyola's second-half keeper Erica Neimann. The assist was the first collegiate point for Anderson and first goal of the season for Beirne.

The Terps outshot the Greyhounds 16-4 and by an 8-2 margin in each half.

Loyola falls to 2-4-0.

The Terps return to action as No. 1 North Carolina comes to Ludwig Field for a 7 p.m. showdown on Friday, Oct. 5. It's Alumni Day as the Terps will honor its WUSA players Keri Sarver, Emily Janss and Michelle Demko.
