BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Maryland women's tennis team lost to No. 54 Virginia Tech, 7-0, Sunday afternoon in an Atlantic Coast Conference match held at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus.

The Terrapins fell to 8-12 on the season and 1-8 in the conference, while the Hokies improved to 11-10 on the year and 2-7 in the ACC.

Maryland started off on the right foot as senior Marianne Baker and sophomore Michal Amir won the first doubles match, 8-3, over Inga Beermann and JJ Larson. Senior Brooke Rogers and Maggie MacKeever lost a close match, 8-6, to Abbey Walker and Jessica Brouwer. The freshman duo of Elyse Steiner and Lisa Miller fell to Ashley James and Jess Long, 8-5.

The Terps were swept in the singles portion on the match. Baker, ranked No. 88 nationally, fell to Beermann, 6-4, 7-5, at the No. 1 singles position, while Amir lost a tight match to Long, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (6), at the No. 2 singles spot.

At the No. 3 singles position, Steiner fell to James, 6-1, 6-3, while Rogers lost to Larson, 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot. MacKeever dropped her match against Walker, 6-7, 6-4, 5-7, in the No. 5 spot, and Miller lost to Bethan James at the No. 6 slot, 6-7, 6-2, 0-1 (5).

The Terps will be on the road next weekend, as they face Miami at 2 p.m. Friday and Florida State at noon Sunday.
