Oct. 17, 2008

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - First-year head coach Kerry McCoy and the University of Maryland wrestling team recently announced its captains for the upcoming 2008-09 season.

The Terrapins have decided on four captains, all juniors. The quartet includes All-American and reigning ACC Wrestler of the Year Hudson Taylor, as well as Steven Bell, Brendan Byrne and Alex Krom.

Taylor, Maryland's first All-American in over a decade, went 37-3 a season ago with 18 wins coming via pin en route to finishing third in the country in the 197-pound division.

Bell was an all-conference wrestler last year and the Atlantic Coast Conference champion at 133 pounds, posting a 29-10 overall record. Byrne went 19-12 last season as the Terps' primary option at 125 pounds. Krom, a redshirt junior, sat out last season after a great sophomore season two years ago, when he went 22-7 and was ranked as highly as 13th in the nation.

Maryland hosts the Red & Black Wrestle-Offs exhibition at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at Comcast Pavilion. The regular season begins Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Fighting Scot Duals in Edinboro, Pa.
