COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland freshman Beckett Hollenbach scored a goal and added an assist to lead the 18th-ranked Terrapins to a 3-0 shutout victory against the 15th-ranked George Mason Patriots Wednesday evening at Ludwig Field. Maryland senior Keith Beach totaled two assists to improve his season total to 10 and move him into a tie for 10th place with former Terp Gary Furlong on the all-time Maryland career points chart. Beach has totaled 60 career points, including 12 this season. The win improves the Terps' record to 8-3 overall while the Patriots saw their nine-match win streak end and fall to 9-3.
Senior forward Pierre Venditti found the net first for the Terps, scoring his third goal of the season off an assist from Hollenbach. Hollenbach sent a long pass down the midfield into Mason goalkeeper Paul Marcoullier's hands. Unable to keep control of the ball, Marcoullier muffled the ball and Venditti followed it up from 10 yards out at the 9:09 mark. Hollenbach would strike next for the Terps on a header off of a Beach corner kick at the 44:18 mark.
The score would remain 2-0, and both teams played a physical contest throughout the second half. George Mason played with a man down following a Chris Villamil red card at the 56:30 mark, and the Terps would take advantage. Maryland sophomore Kirk Miller would put back a Keith Beach shot, which slipped through Marcouiller's hands at the 75:42 mark.
In goal, sophomore Christian Lewis posted three saves for the Terps while George Mason's Marcoullier totaled 10. It was Lewis' third shutout of the season.
