TALLAHASSEE, FLA. - The University of Maryland baseball team continues its 11-day road trip with five games this week, all in Tallahassee, Fla. On Tuesday, the Terps face Florida A&M in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Both games against the Rattlers are scheduled for seven innings. Maryland then concludes its road trip with a three-game ACC series against Florida State. The Terps and Seminoles are scheduled to square off Thursday at 6 p.m., Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. The Saturday game will be televised live by The Sunshine Network
Maryland (5-14, 0-3 ACC) enters the week having been swept by Clemson last weekend. The Tigers prevailed 8-6 on March 17 and swept a March 18 doubleheader 9-3 and 11-2.
Senior designated hitter Craig Munroe (Thornhill, Ontario) leads the Terps with a .410 batting average, four home runs and 10 doubles. He also has 14 RBI and a team-leading 12 multiple-hit games. After going 6-for-12 with three doubles in the series against Clemson, Munroe carries a team-high eight-game hitting streak heading into the week.
Senior second baseman Jason Mohap (Ashland, Pa.) is hitting a career-high .333 and leads the Terps with 15 RBI. He also has belted three home runs and is tied for the team lead with five stolen bases.
Sophomore catcher Kevin McDonald (Rockaway, N.J.) is hitting .364, junior third baseman Steve Oursler (Clinton, Md.) is batting .317 and senior second baseman Jason Mohap (Ashland, Pa.) is hitting .333 with three home runs and a team-leading 14 RBI. Junior first baseman Chuck Easter (Baltimore, Md.) is hitting .328.
Junior right-handed pitcher Mark Martin (Manassas, Va.) leads all starters with a 4.91 ERA and senior left-hander Joe Hart has struck out a team-leading 39 batters in 31.0 innings.
Maryland vs. Florida A&M
The Terps and Rattlers square off for just the sixth and seventh times this week. Maryland has won all five previous meetings. Most recently, the Terps swept a two-game series March 24-25, 1998 by scores of 9-5 and 10-4. Previously, the Terps beat Florida A&M 5-1 on March 19, 1996. They also swept a two-game series March 15-16, 1994 by scores of 12-7 and 14-11. Last season, the Rattlers finished 21-29.
Maryland vs. Florida State
The Terps and Seminoles have squared off 30 times prior to this season and the Seminoles hold a 27-3 advantage. In the most recent meeting, Florida State edged Maryland 4-1 in the second round of last season's ACC Tournament. The Terps last beat the Seminoles 14-6 on March 26, 1998. Last season, the Seminoles advanced to the championship game of the College World Series.
