Thomas' 30 Power #8 Terps Past Eagles

BOSTON - Alyssa Thomas scored a career-high 30 points and notched 12 rebounds to lead No. 8 Maryland to an 86-61 win at Boston College Thursday. Tianna Hawkins grabbed her 1000th career rebound in the win.

Hawkins scored 15 points, Malina Howard has 11, and Alicia DeVaughn added 10 points and eight rebounds for Maryland (22-4, 13-2 ACC). Thomas notched her 16th double-double of the season, which leads the ACC.

With four rebounds, Hawkins became the third woman -- and the fourth male or female -- in school history to grab 1,000 rebounds. Only Crystal Langhorne, Marissa Coleman and Len Elmore have reached the mark.

Kristen Doherty scored 18 points for Boston College (10-16, 4-11). Kerri Shields scored seven points to become the 22nd player in BC history to reach 1,000.

With the win, Maryland remained in second place in the ACC, behind Duke and ahead of North Carolina -- the only ACC teams to beat the Terps this season.

Maryland scored the game's first five points and led 15-5 with 13 minutes left in the first half. BC cut the deficit to four points midway through the first half, but the Terrapins scored 12 of the last 14 points before halftime to open a 43-25 lead. They closed the first on an 18-4 run.

Boston College never got closer than 16 points in the second half.

The Terrapins committed a season-low nine turnovers and six Terrapins hit seven threes.

With her 30 points, Thomas reached the 1,500-point mark. She is currently No. 12 on Maryland's all-time list with 1,516 career points.

Next, Maryland will return home to host a rematch with No. 5 Duke (24-1, 14-0) on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. in Comcast Center.
