CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) - Dez Wells scored 18 points and Alex Len added 16, but Maryland fell at Miami 54-47 Sunday night.
Kenny Kadji scored 14 points and Trey McKinney Jones finished with 12 points to help the Hurricanes (12-3, 3-0) open Atlantic Coast Conference play with three consecutive wins for the first time.
McKinney Jones' two free throws with 38.4 seconds remaining increased Miami's lead to 50-44. Durand Scott secured the win with a fast-break layup that made it 52-44 with 24 seconds left.
Alex Len scored eight straight points for the Terrapins late in the second half. His dunk with 39 seconds left got Maryland within 48-44.
Wells connected on 7 of 11 shots and also had five rebounds. Len, meanwhile, made 6 of 13 shots and finished one rebound shy of a double-double.
Both teams struggled shooting, combining to make 40 of 120 shots (33.3 percent) in the game. After shooting 21.4 percent in the first half, the Terps shot 41.4 percent in the second. Wells cut the Miami lead to 32-29 on a layup with 9:25 left, but the Hurricanes responded with a 7-0 run and Maryland never got closer than four.
Maryland, which fell to 13-3 overall and 1-2 in the ACC with the loss, plays host to No. 20 NC State Wednesday at 7 p.m.
