Williams Leads Maryland In Day One At Duke

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland track and field traveled to Durham, N.C. Friday to compete at the Duke/Asics Invitational held at Duke University's Wallace Wade Stadium. After the first day of this weekend's meet, the Terrapins had several notable individual performances.

Sophomore Chanel Williams (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) ran a season best and ECAC-qualifying time of 1:01.75 in the 400-meter hurdles for third place. Senior Kristina Keegan (Voorhees, N.J.) also had a season-best time of 1:02.93 in the event.

Senior Zhanna Barer (Israel) finished fifth in the pole vault and posted a season best and ECAC-qualifying mark of 11-11.75.

Junior Aysha Gregory (Wilmington, Del.), senior Zakiya Shivers (Baltimore, Md.), and junior Jillian Anwah (Centreville, Va.) each had season-best marks in the hammer throw. Gregory placed fourth and posted an ECAC-qualifying mark of 175-4. Shivers had an ECAC-qualifying mark of 170-0 for sixth place and Anwah posted a 154-11 in the hammer throw.

Redshirt freshman Erin Matyus (Bethlehem, Pa.) topped her season-best time in the 1,500-meter run, finishing with a 4:44.68 in the event.

Top finishers for Maryland on the men's side in were freshman Victor Gilreath (Catonsville, Md.), sophomore Devin Regan (Annapolis, Md.), sophomore Anthony Walker (Greenbelt, Md.) and junior Adam Durham (Tampa, Fla.).

Gilreath finished seventh in the triple jump (46-.75) and Regan placed fifth in the javelin throw with a season-best mark of 181-7. Walker placed second in the 400-meter dash (dev.) with a time of 49.34 and Durham took ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.68.

Freshman Kevin Gahr (Northfield, N.J.) ran his season-best time in the 5,000-meter run (15:11.96).
