HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- Junior heavyweight Youssif Hemida won his third match of the day in the second session of the 55th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships. Hemida topped fifth-seeded and ninth-ranked Billy Miller of Edinboro in the quarterfinals on Friday night, earning his spot in a semifinal bout against top-seeded Tanner Hall of Arizona State.

Hall and Hemida met at the 2017 NCAA Championships, where Hall was victorious in a tight, 2-1, victory. The two will battle for a spot in Saturday's championship match, which will be against either Sam Stoll of Iowa or Conan Jennings of Northwestern.

Two other Maryland wrestlers will join Hemida on the mat Saturday. Ryan Diehl and Brendan Burnham both picked up two wins Friday night, which advanced them in the Midlands consolation bracket.

Diehl won his first match via medical forfeit, and then defeated Cole Martin of Wisconsin, 16-10. He'll wrestle Colton Schilling of Cal Poly in his first match on Saturday.

Burnham's first win was a 7-3 decision against Andrew Scott of Northern Illinois. He then followed it up with an impressive 9-2 win over Johnny Blankenship of Nebraska. Burnham will battle fourth-seeded May Bethea of Penn in his opening match on Saturday.

Maryland's Josh Ugalde earned one victory in Friday's night session, beating Jacob Covaciu of Wisconsin via technical fall. It was Ugalde's second technical fall victory of the day and his third of the season. The redshirt sophomore dropped his following match against tenth-seeded Devin Skatzka of Indiana.

Maryland is in 12th place following the second session, which is five spots higher than its 2016 finish.

Session III of the 55th Midlands Championships will begin at 12 p.m. (CT) on Saturday. The matches will be streamed on BTN2Go and FloWrestling, and live stats will be provided by TrackWrestling
