BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior Alexandra Lucki locked up a bid to the 2017 NCAA Championship Friday after finishing seventh at the Mid-Atlantic Regional race at Lehigh University. Lucki earned All-Region honors for the second consecutive season with her performance and the Toronto, Ontario native will now race in her first ever NCAA Championship race.

“I am proud of the way all seven ladies stepped up during this post season and had their strongest performances when it counts to help us reach our team goals," said head coach Andrew Valmon. "Alex Lucki set the tone with an individual NCAA qualification, something we haven’t accomplished in the past several years.”

Maryland finished ninth in the team standings in a field of nearly 30 teams while scoring 217 points -- almost 50 points off the squad’s total last season.

Lucki’s seventh place finish is the best finish ever on record for a Maryland runner at the event, as her time of 20:16.3 shaved nearly 30 seconds off her finish on the course at the Paul Short Invitational in September. Lucki is the first Terp to receive a bid to NCAAs since Julie Fricke earned a bid after finishing 13th at the 2011 regional.

Junior Emily Bracher was a strong No. 2 runner foe the Terps, finishing inside the top-30 with a mark of 20:53.3. The time was good for 29th in the field, while she dropped 11 seconds off her Paul Short time. Sophomore Britt Lang (21:27.4) and freshman Christine Laurie (21:33.0) stayed connected to finish inside top-65, crossing the line in 59th and 62nd respectively. Sophomore Paige Novak was the final scoring runner for UMD, taking 82nd with a time of 21:48.6.

Lucki will now prepare for the 2017 NCAA Championship meet held on Saturday, November 18 in Louisville Kentucky.
